From an early age I would sketch and express my thoughts in images rather than words. Through my collections, I find an outlet to reference challenging issues and explore their impact; whether in bold forms of expression or refined undertones. I felt intensely drawn to fashion as a creative outlet to push the boundaries of what is considered normal. These attributes have influenced my aesthetic in subtly changing the appearance of garments to be interestingly strange, while still remaining wearable. Growing up between Zimbabwe and Botswana has highly influenced my inspiration for designs which is found in the natural environment; finding balances with technological advancements in our modern world. This impacts my environmentally conscious approach to design. I believe that the human race and the environment are constantly at war. Although we cannot live without nature, humans are pushing the boundaries at costs that are too high to bear. With the rapid rise of the Fast Fashion industry, the environmental consequences as well as ethical impacts are growing at an exponential rate, and I feel it is the responsibility of all in the fashion industry to work towards implementing eco-friendly practices.
